Ancestral Medicine August Newsletter

Greetings all.

Hopefully you're finding your sense of humor and reserves of resilience intact through the pandemic. Seriously though, big kindness on all the ways so many are hurting.

Amidst the strange times, I'm excited to share about an entirely new course starting in November, Animist Psychology: Earth, Ancestors, and Mental Health. The offering will weave of two decades of experience in psychology and clinical mental health with earth-honoring ritual and work for cultural healing. It's a relief to finally give form to some of these integrations. Details below and on the site; all are welcome!

Also this Northern Autumn we are offering the Foundations of Ritual course. This is a great way to strengthen fundamentals and also explore ritual arts from a relational perspective that can enrich all aspects of our lives.

Both the Animist Psychology and Foundations of Ritual courses will feature our new online course approach which includes an hour a week of live Q&A with me (Daniel) and three hours per week of live calls led by trained ritualists in the Ancestral Medicine network, each with small break-out groups. These three weekly community calls will be held in a time zone friendly to the Americas, East and South Asia & Oceania, and Europe & South Africa, and each will include options for BIPOC-only and LGBTQI-only break-out groups to support international and cultural inclusivity.

Now through mid-September the weekly pandemic-inspired series
Kindling the Need-Fire remains open, and the prior season's pandemic series, Bring Out Your Dead, is available in archived form and includes 22 experiential practices.

Feel free to enjoy this recent podcast with the esteemed Ian MacKenzie. We get to chatting about gender, ancestry, the pandemic, epistemology, supremacy, and the challenges of being a helpful, regular-sized person. Lots of other great conversations in Ian’s podcast archive.⁣

Finally, if you enjoy reflections from me or others in the Ancestral Medicine network, consider finding us @danielfoor on Instagram or Ancestral Medicine on Facebook. Aside from the courses, it's the way that I'm staying active with public expression through the times.

Wishing you all excellent health and nourishing connection to the land and your people.

Daniel

Registration now open! Ritual is both art and discipline, cultivation of personal intuition and renewal of ancestral knowledge, instinctual and learnable. The styles and approaches to ritual are as diverse as people, human and otherwise, and the only ‘wrong’ ways to approach may be those that become untethered from love, wisdom, and relationality.

In the spirit of kind, inclusive, and non-dogmatic learning, this course is for anyone seeking to strengthen their foundational skills in ritual arts. Course material assumes no prior knowledge. Content may also be useful to priests, educators, and practitioners of diverse traditions in search of fresh ways to transmit basic teachings.

The course is eight weeks long with a weekly pre-recorded lesson, a live Q&A call with Dr. Foor (recorded for playback), and three additional (optional) live calls each week. Our meetings will be a blend of responsive teaching and experiential guided practices each gathering. Payment plans and scholarships are available. Early bird discount available until September 15th.
If you have previously taken the Foundations of Ritual course, you can repeat the course for a
past participant rate of $60.

Registration is still open! The need-fire is an ancient tradition of kindling a single communal flame to ritually ward off disease in times of great necessity.

As we enter our second season of global pandemic, nearly everyone on Earth is navigating the impacts of social and economic upheaval, cultural uncertainty, and increased illness and death. The duration and intensity of this turbulence is impossible to know from this vantage.

Our meetings offer a blend of responsive teaching for the times and two experiential guided practices each gathering. Cost is flexible, from Pay-it-Forward to $250 for the 16+ hours of content to allow for folks of variable means to join.

The prior season's pandemic series, Bring Out Your Dead, is available in archived form.
