Ancestral Medicine February Newsletter

Greetings all.

I hope you're pacing yourself, resourcing in the wisdom of the Earth and ancestors, still in touch with the longer vision, including over lifetimes.

For those hunkered down through the Northern pandemic winter, who knows what may unfold next but at least in the U.S. there may be early signs of positive shift as vaccinations and better national governance picks up. Praise ongoing to all the frontline workers and to everyone still showing up despite the times. Halfway to equinox...

I'm happy to share that on November 20th (our older daughter Maeve's third birthday) we welcomed our second child Isa Blue (like the rune, sounds like Lisa). As Sarah and I emerge from the blessedly disorganized, sleep-disturbed waters of fourth trimester, we're grateful for new life and for the big love of this silly sweet ancestor returning.

The animism and ancestral healing online courses are in full stride, and registration is now open for our spring courses, Foundations of Ritual & Animist Psychology. Details are below, note the early registration discount through the end of the month and options for returning participants.

Congrats to the three practitioners of ancestral healing who completed their certification last month: Jen Hudziec (New Hampshire, USA), Hazel Volk (South Australia), and Michelle Ayn Tessensohn (Singapore). For those interested in sessions, the practitioner directory is a great resource and includes low-income options.

Finally, for Mandarin speakers, you’re welcome to join me for an ancestor teaching I'm guiding for a group in Beijing (Thurs, March 11th, 8pm Beijing local time). There will be a live interpreter and all registration happens through WeChat. We aren’t hosting so are not able to provide the normal customer support for this event, but we'll link to the recording on our site in the weeks after and make it available to all.

Thanks everyone for your interest in the happenings and for caring for life there.

Warmly,

Daniel

Ritual is both art and discipline, cultivation of personal intuition and renewal of ancestral knowledge, instinctual and learnable. The styles and approaches to ritual are as diverse as people, human and otherwise, and the only ‘wrong’ ways to approach may be those that become untethered from love, wisdom, and relationality. This course is for anyone seeking to strengthen their foundational skills in ritual arts. Course material assumes no prior knowledge.

Topics will include relational etiquette, protection, invocation, trance, prayer, offering practice, and a dozen other elements found in many approaches to ritual arts. Participants can expect to learn skills you can apply in everyday devotions as well as flexible frameworks in which to share about your experiences and approach to the sacred.
“The Foundations of Ritual course is both practical and inspiring. Daniel Foor manages to teach in a depthful and accessible manner, without losing any of the complexity that comes with such vast territory as ritual. The course supporters are heartfelt and caring. I found myself incorporating new elements into my own ritual practice each week, letting it transform into something more meaningful and useful.”

~ Elle N. (Oakland, California, USA)

If you have previously taken Foundations of Ritual and would like to join again (including for live calls and the new group), let us know, and we'll share a link for the special $60 returning participant rate.

Animist Psychology seeks to identify and build on common ground between ritual, psychology, and cultural healing. This course is a good fit for practitioners of ritual arts, mental health professionals and students of psychology, and anyone interested in the intersections of ritual, culture, and psyche.

Topics include colonialism and mental health, ancestral curses, archetypal possession, psychosis and spiritual emergency, belonging in places with major historical trauma, cultivating resilience in partnership with the ancestors and land, and a range of other considerations under the banner of Animist Psychology. We will invite you to reflect at depth on your own journey through guided experiential practices and notice psychological and cultural dynamics in your life and communities of practice.

“This is an engaging and potentially challenging course that will take you deeper into the intersection of new animism and the mental health field.  I’d recommend this course for anyone in a helping profession as well as any and all unrepentant psychology nerds out there.”

~ Caitlin M. (Whiting, Indiana, USA)

If you were a participant in the first round of Animist Psychology in 2020 and would like to join again with the new group, let us know and we'll share a link for a special $75 returning participant rate.
